Who we are

Work Central Alberta ("we", "us") operates this regional employment platform connecting job seekers and employers across Central Alberta.

We handle personal information in accordance with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where applicable, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Information we collect

We only collect what the platform needs to work.

When you create an account:

Name and email address
A password, stored only as a secure one-way hash - never in readable form
Your role (job seeker or employer)
A platform reference code automatically assigned to your account

Job seeker profiles:

Contact details, city, and postal code
Date of birth (we require you to be at least 18)
Gender, where you choose to provide it
Work authorization status in Canada
Education, work history, skills, and certifications
Your resume, and a LinkedIn URL if you add one

Employer profiles:

Business name, structure, industry, and company size
CRA and GST business numbers
Business address and contact details
Verification documents (business registration, CRA confirmation)

When you apply for a job without an account: name, email, phone, city, work status, your resume, and any message you write.

Automatically: IP address on form submissions (used to detect abuse), and basic page-view counts on job postings.

How we use your information

To create and operate your account
To show your application to the employer whose job you applied for
To let employers search for candidates matching their roles
To verify employer businesses before they can post jobs
To send service messages about your applications and account
To detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive use

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising by third parties.

Who can see your information

Employers see your profile and resume when you apply to their job, or if you make your profile visible to employer searches.
Our administrators can access accounts and verification documents to run the platform and review employer registrations.
Service providers that host the site or deliver our email, strictly to perform those functions on our behalf.
Authorities, only where we are legally required to disclose.

Employer verification documents are never shown publicly - they are visible only to our administrators.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile and resume.

Applications you have already submitted may be retained by the employer that received them, and we may keep limited records where required for legal or accounting purposes.

How we protect it

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and are never recoverable in readable form
Traffic is served over HTTPS on our live site
Resumes and verification documents are served only to authorized users, never from a publicly guessable address
Access to administrative tools is restricted and authenticated

No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold.
