Accessibility

Work Central Alberta is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including those who navigate by keyboard, use a screen reader, need larger text, or browse on a small screen or slow connection.

Accessibility is treated as part of building the site, not something added afterwards.

• Keyboard navigation - every interactive control can be reached and operated without a mouse, with visible focus styling
• Semantic structure - proper headings, landmarks, lists, and labelled form fields so screen readers can describe the page
• Text alternatives - meaningful images carry descriptions; decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology
• Colour contrast - text and interface colours are chosen to stay legible, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed
• Responsive layout - the site reflows to any screen size and supports browser zoom without content being cut off
• Clear errors - form problems are described in words, next to the field they relate to
• Reduced motion - animations are subtle and respect your operating system's reduced-motion preference

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We have not yet completed a formal third-party audit, so we describe the site as partially conformant: most of the standard is met, and we are working through the remainder.

We would rather be honest about the gaps than claim more than we can support:

• Some interactive map and chart views are difficult to use with a screen reader; the same information is available as text or a table elsewhere on the page
• Documents uploaded by employers (such as PDFs) are outside our control and may not be tagged for accessibility
• A small number of older pages have not yet been reviewed to the same standard

If a page is not working for you, we will help directly - including reading a job posting to you, or accepting an application another way.

Tell us the page address and what went wrong, and we will respond within one business day and aim to fix the underlying issue.
